You can’t keep a good Muppet down. The 2011 reboot, despite earning just $88-million at the box office, garnered enough good will (plus an Oscar for the song Man or Muppet and, less importantly, a four-star review from yours truly) to make a sequel happen.

And while the first trailer for Muppets Most Wanted was a pretty standard affair – clips, quips, screen time for co-stars Ricky Gervais and Tina Fey, and some of the many cameos – it wasn’t quite up the Muppets’ usual standard of insouciance. (Recall that the trailers for the last Muppet movie included sendups of The Hangover Part II, The Hunger Games and Paranormal Activity.)

Now the felt gang has released a new trailer called Sequel Song, a toe-tapping number with solos from Animal, Gonzo, and Gonzo’s chickens. “We’re doing a sequel!” Kermit and Fozzie sing, decked out in gold top hats. “That’s what we do in Hollywood! And everybody knows that the sequel’s never quite as good.” They get a little more positive as they continue: “We’re doing a sequel! There’s no need to disguise; the studio considers us a viable franchise.” And: “We’re doing a sequel! The studio wants more, while they wait for Tom Hanks to make Toy Story 4.”

Kermit wraps it up, reminding us how Hollywood tends to lead with money and follow up with ideas: “We’re doing a sequel! Let’s give it a shot. All we need now is a half-decent plot.” Fozzie suggests the plot from the first movie, which Kermit pooh-poohs. (Though to be fair that didn’t stop The Hangover Part II.) But it’s Gervais – his character goes by the name Dominic Badguy – who suggests that the Muppets go on a world tour.

The trailer tells us little about the plot of the film, but that’s already been covered by the boring old first trailer. And we don’t have much longer to wait in any case. Muppets Most Wanted opens March 21. Muppets Most Wanted is less than three weeks from bringing Jim Henson's infinitely lovable felt creations to theaters once again. In order to get audiences probably jazzed for the return of Kermit and company, Disney has dropped a whole mess of goodies from the sequel, including the first official clip, a sing-along featuring the first musical number out of the gate, and a complete listing of the songs featured on the retail soundtrack.

After a long and unfortunate fallow period, the Muppets brought some good-spirited musical mayhem to the big screen with 2011's The Muppets.  Though Jason Segel and Amy Adams, the human leads from the Muppety revival, aren't returning, director James Bobin and co-writer Nick Stoller are back.  And their buddy Walter is now a full-blown Muppet.

Fresh off their triumph in The Muppets, the gang heads across the pond for a European tour in Muppets Most Wanted.  What they don't know is that Constantine, the world's most famous criminal super-thief, bears a striking resemblance to Kermit and has plans for our heroes.  Swapping places with Kermit, he gets the world's favorite frog tossed into a Russian gulag and takes over the Muppets in order to perpetrate his biggest heist ever.

The first clip, here thanks to Total Film, introduces Ricky Gervais as the Muppets' would-be manager, Dominic Badguy.  Unfortunately for the Muppets, Dominic is actually Constantine's sidekick. Gervais is joined in the sequel by fellow non-felt actors Tina Fey and Ty Burell, respectively playing a Russian prison guard and Jean Pierre Napoleon, an Interpol inspector hot on Constantine's heels.  And, naturally, the film features a bunch of big cameos that we won't spoil here.

What we will spoil is how Muppets Most Wanted starts: immediately after the musical number that finished off The Muppets.  This kinda-sorta trailer, available in HD at Apple, showcases the sequel song that kicks off this particular sequel: In addition to Bobin and Stoller, a behind the scenes MVP doing his second tour of Muppet-duty is Bret Mckenzie, the Flight of the Conchords co-conspirator who won an Oscar for his original song "Man or Muppet" in The Muppets. The official soundtrack featuring Mckenzie's new compositions, as well as score by Christophe Beck, is set to go on sale March 18th, three days before Muppets Most Wanted hits theaters on March 21st.
